QUESTION POSED ON: 02 October 2007
We are trying to determine how frequently Outlook Web Access (OWA) is accessed. We would also like to verify how many users have logged in, their user ID, mailbox name, access start time and access end time. Is there a tool that will provide this information? We are using Exchange 2000 on a Windows Server 2003 domain.

EXPERT RESPONSE
Although there are a large number of requests for such a feature, there are surprisingly few, if any, solutions to do what you need in an "out of the box" manner. However, if you don't mind getting down and dirty with log files, then you can analyze the Internet Information Services (IIS) log files for any entries relating to OWA access.

You can also use a utility such as Log Parser 2.2 to do the log mining for you. Check out the MSExchange.org article "Using the Log Parser utility to analyze Exchange/IIS logs" for details on how to use the Log Parser tool.
